And what better way to color your outfits than with a beautiful philosophy and great cause? Allow us to introduce Pura Vida bracelets, now at the Rare Pair.

“Pura vida” means pure life in Spanish: enjoying life slowly, celebrating good fortune, not taking anything for granted. Being free and living life to its fullest. You know, Carpe Diem. As we spiral through our fast-paced lives, noses down in smart phones, ask yourself: when was the last time you truly stopped to smell the roses?

I think we all need a bright little reminder.

Appropriately named, Pura Vida bracelets walk their talk by making it their mission to support local artists in Costa Rica.

It’s a cool story. Pura Vida began unexpectedly from an interaction between Paul and Griffin, two traveling Californians, and Jorge and Joaquin, two impoverished street vendors in Costa Rica. The J’s were peddling vibrant bracelets handmade in a simple way that seemed to capture the essence of the travelers’ South American journey. Paul and Griffin purchased 400 bracelets to bring back to the States, sold all of them and many more, and voila, a business (and a movement!) was born.

With very little tourism and low paying jobs, local jewelers have a difficult time making ends meet. From the exponential growth of Pura Vida Bracelets throughout the United States and around the world, Pura Vida is now able to support full-time work for 30 talented artisans, and growing.

Pura Vida also donates 1% of its sales to The Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots foundation dedicated to protecting as well as preserving beaches and oceans worldwide.

Find the braided, platinum, beaded, and original styles at The Rare Pair today. Stack them to wring in spring with some spice AND support local artists. Talk about Pura Vida!
