Love Your Melon

Have you ever seen someone sporting a cute hat with a leather patch that reads, “Love Your Melon?” The hats are popular on college campuses – especially in Minnesota – but do you know why?

It all started in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Two friends – Zachary and Brian – created an idea and a mission that took off. The website states, “On a mission to improve the lives of children battling cancer since October 22nd, 2012, Love Your Melon began with the simple idea of putting a hat on every child battling cancer in America… After achieving the original goal of giving 45,000 hats – one for every child battling cancer in America – Love Your Melon set a new goal of giving one million dollars to pediatric cancer research and providing immediate support to children and their families.”

50% of the profits from Love Your Melon product sales are given to LYM’s nonprofit partners in the fields of pediatric oncology, cancer research initiatives, and the immediate support for families of children battling cancer.

According to their website, Love Your Melon has donated over 2.6 million dollars and over 120,000 hats to date. The knit hats are made in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the Minnesota Knitting Mills, and the leather patches that are on the front of their popular beanies are made in Minneapolis, MN, by Gotham Textile. The Rare Pair is joining in the cause, and now has select Love Your Melon products for sale.

At The Rare Pair, you’ll find a few of the classic Pom Beanies, a sweet baseball cap, and scarves (both fashionable and warm!). If you want more information, feel free to ask a Sales Associate about the brand and the products! To use their motto: “Let’s write the next chapter together. Join the story.” Help us support Love Your Melon!
